Specializing in Selective Plating Development
& Technology
New Products to Note
Simplified Plating Station
Greatly reduces set-up & shut down time.
Eliminates handle changeover hassles & delays during prep steps.
This plating station allows for 4 plating steps to be run off of a single positive lead
wire from the power supply. Each of the beakers has its own lead with a lead retrieval
system. With this arrangement, the operator can set up once and do a series of parts with
a separate beaker, handle, and anode for each of the prep steps. |

|
Eliminated are the
transferring of the banana plug from lead handle to handle during the critical preparatory
steps of the brush plating process.
When the plating is completed, the handles can be removed and the
tops put on the beakers. Then it is ready for the next plating job 2. with minimum set up
time. Combining this system with the Versa-Platers and pre-fab anode sleeves, the set up
and shut down time can be reduced by 80%-90%. |
Porta Pack Plus II
LDC has improved upon the super lite power supplies. The Porta-Pack Plus 11 offers the
same advanced features as its predecessor. But, it also offers additional features aimed
at |

|
making the unit more user friendly. The following features were added to
the Porta-Pack Plus II, based, in large part, on customers suggestions and comments:
1.Audible tones alert the plating technician when voltage is adjusted or when current has
been reversed.
2.An alarm sounds when preset amp hours are reached.
3.With proper equipment, the unit can be calibrated in house, saving downtime & money
(although unit should need to be calibrated only
every 4-5 years).
4.A programmable security code must be entered for advanced programming (such as
calibration).
5. Brownout Protection: if the unit shorts out, it will not immediately shut down. Instead
the Porta-Pack Plus 11 pauses and gives the operator the opportunity to remove the fault
and resume plating.
6. Blackout Protection: in the event the operator cannot remove the fault within a short
period of time, the unit shuts down but it maintains voltage and amp hour memory. This
allows the technician to continue the job without completely re-setting the unit (unlike
all other brush plating power supplies on the market). |
Re-Certification
It is time to plan your company's brush plating
recertification for 1998. All companies that contract to the
U.S. Government or operate within their guidelines, which includes certifying work to
Mil-Std 865C or similar, must ensure that their technicians are certified and then
re-certified on an annual basis.
As in any skilled profession, ongoing education is the key to
continued success. Platers can, over time, easily pick up bad habits that lead to poor
adhesion, reworks, and other plating problems. An annual recertification course can help
correct these habits, and maintain the skill level required of brush plating technicians.
Maybe your application doesn't require certification or you or
your company's technicians were never formally trained or certified. The success of brush
plating is primarily dependent upon the operator. An untrained, or poorly trained operator
can cause excessive plating failures. A plating failure hurts your company's reputation
and gives brush plating a black eye. There are just too many variables in a I st Quarter,
1998 typical brush plating application, not to attend a formal training session. The loss
of time and money for rework can be greatly reduced or avoided by proper training.
For this reason, LDC and W.R. Associates (WRA), offer LDC
customers free training classes at our facilities. Below are the 1998 class schedules for
the LDC Process. Classes are offered at both LDC's training center (Norfolk, VA) and WRA's
facility (Carlsbad, CA). Both classes are offered at no charge and, upon successful
completion of the course and written examination, certify you to the Mil-Std 865C and to
the Mil-Std 2197 (SH).
The selective brush plating school offers hands-on practice in
addition to lectures. Some of the topics covered in the basic course include: LDC
equipment & accessories (including new and upgraded), LDC solutions, brush plating
applications, preparation of various base metals, tooling, LDC brush plating procedures,
choosing the correct solutions for your job and safety precautions. In addition, the class
relies heavily on the LDC manual as a resource for platers. Upon successful completion of
the course, each certified technician will understand and be able to use the LDC manual as
a reference tool.
To register for a scheduled training course, please call at least
2 weeks prior to the commencement of the class. Or contact either LDC or WRA about
scheduling a customized training class.
Customized training courses, to meet your company's schedule and
application(s), can be arranged at your facility, worldwide. On-site training courses
usually require 2-5 days time, depending on the application and the number of operators to
be trained. We look forward to serving you in 1998. |
