A CLASS FOR SALES AND MANAGEMENT

Companies have purchased brush plating systems for a variety of applications. In some cases it is for production support, such as pre braze. In others it is to provide the repair technology for returning the repaired products to its customers. Such items as end bells on electric motors, bearing support areas on rotors, journals on axles as well as cadmium touch up of high strength steels.

The capabilities of the equipment are frequently not understood by the management or by the sales force and as such go significantly underutilized.

Several of our customers asked if we would run a class that would provide a overview of the process and its capabilities.

Based on these requests we have scheduled a two day class as follows:

Date: January 8 and 9
Place: WRA's Training Fac.
Time: 8:30 - 3:30 both days

If you are interested in having some of your people attend please contact WRA at 1-800-348-3287 and talk to:

Ted Ford or Abraham Arellanes

TRAINING

The Liquid Development Company and W R Associates Inc provide FREE training for their customers in brush plating.

In the past the majority of the training was received in the training centers in Norfolk, Va. and Carlsbad, Ca.

A more effective way to receive the necessary training of the operators is in your plant. While both LDC and WRA charge for the transportation and per diem expenses of the trainer, which in most cases is the same as those of the person attending the class at our facility, the benefits that accrue to the company are significant:

-The training is focused on the needs at your facility.

- The training takes place on the equipment that the
operator will be using at your plant.

- Other personnel who will be involved in the process such
as possible apprentice platers, the Supervisors, Quality
Assurance and manufacturing engineering can become
familiar with the process and its capabilities.

-Frequently parts are repaired or Salvaged paying in part
for the training and at the same time getting the involved
personnel more familiar with the process and its
  capabilities.

- If a company wishes to set up a self certification program
which is internal to the company with a WRA /LDC audit
the in plant training is the first step unless you wish to send
  the staff for training.

TIGHTER CONTROLS ARE COMING

The control and handling of hazardous material has been notched up since September 11th. If you are storing hazardous materials or using them at your facilities it might be a good time to review your record keeping with an eye on the additional audits that may become standard for local authorities.

At this point the fire departments, local EPA, FBI etc. are becoming very vigilant and are checking all companies using hazardous materials.

Things that it would be good to have in place at your facility are:

- a log of materials received
- a storage place that is secure
- a secondary containment system
- accounting for the withdrawal from the storage area
- a log of the use of the solutions
- the handling of the waste and a record of the disposal

The above will enable you to meet their requirements so that they are assured that:

If 4 gallons was ordered,
   - where it is
   - who used it
   - have the users been trained to handle the product
   - are the entire 4 gallons accounted for?

THE LDC MANUAL

The LDC Process manual is an excellent reference for brush plating technology and enables the person using it to answer most of the questions that can occur during the set of a new application or job or in isolating a problem that may have occurred during the day to day operation of the brush plating capabilities.

It is a good idea when you have an operating system to review the why of the steps being used. Occasionally, when there are no written procedures because 'We've been doing it so long', the person that is doing the work doesn't understand the reasons for the steps taken and some might have even gotten lost in the passing of the process from one person to another.

The manual is excellent in developing the flow of a job.

If you start with chapter 6 you will accumulate enough information to determine, solution and tooling. Next you go to chapter 7 to determine the process steps to be taken. If there is some question as to the material to be used chapter 5 section 9 has the use characteristics of various coatings. Then, after selecting a solution you can go to page 195 and fill out the Process Flow Chart.

At any time, if you run into a problem or question you should get in touch with either W R Associates or The Liquid Development Co. The easy ways are as follows
